Weekly Police Blotter – Ellwood City, PA news (2024)

SIMPLE ASSAULT:
Tyler Cox, 22, of Ellwood City, is charged with Simple Assault and Harassment after an incident on September 1st. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 8:31 p.m., officers were dispatched to Loop Street for a disturbance and were advised of a physical domestic with an male actor fleeing the scene. The male, later identified as Cox was located near Evans Drive and Cox told officers an argument turned physical. Police returned to the residence to get a statement from the victim whom was found with a swollen right eye after she was punched by Cox. The victim wished to have an Emergency PFA and police arraigned Cox on his domestic charges.

HARASSMENT:
Clifton Lawrence, 45, of Ellwood City is charged with Harassment after an incident occurring on August 25th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 7:47 p.m. officers were dispatched to meet with a female who wanted to speak with them about an incident that happened on the 22nd at about 10:00p.m. When police arrived on scene they observed the female victim to have two black eyes, and a broken nose. The female victim told police that Lawrence physically assaulted her, though she was too afraid to report it at the time of the incident. Officers contacted Judge Cartwright to confirm an emergency PFA. Officers then went to Lawrence’s residence and placed him in custody, according to a criminal complaint.

THEFT:
William Haney, 29, of Wampum and Carl Brommer, 43, of New Castle, are each charged with Theft after an incident occurring on July 12th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 7:18p.m., police responded to a report of theft. Two victims reported that scrap metal was taken from the yard of Victim #1. About $50-$100 plus two 40 gallon trash bins were removed from the property by Haney and Brommer according to the complaint.

CONSPIRACY:
Robert Hammond, 29, of Wampum is charged with conspiracy after an investigation that began on February of 2023. Officers met with the CI to gain information on what substances Hammond was selling, where he lived, his phone number, and any accomplices he may have. After setting up a drug deal on April 2nd, and completing the purchase of crystal methamphetamine, the CI returned with the evidence and was released. A warrant was then put out for Hammond’s arrest according to a criminal complaint.

FENTANYL VIOLATIONS:
Kailin Stewart, 37, of New Castle, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of conspiring to distribute fentanyl and fluorofentanyl, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced this week. Stewart pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and 10 grams or more of fluorofentanyl between May 2021 and October 2022. Judge Schwab scheduled sentencing for January 8, 2025. The law provides for a total sentence of not less than five years and up to 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $5 million, or both. Under the federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller is prosecuting this case on behalf of the United States. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, United States Postal Inspection Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Lawrence County Drug Task Force, Mercer County Drug Task Force, New Castle Police Department, Sharon Police Department, and Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Stewart.

HIDTA OPERATION 19:
On Friday, August 23, 2024, Detectives from the Lawrence County District Attorney’s HIDTA Drug Task Force (SIU), along with the New Castle City Police Department executed a sealed search warrant at 699 Arlington Avenue, New Castle, Pennsylvania 16101. Located inside the residence was the target of the investigation, Zachary GLAUDE. A list of the items seized from the residence are as follows:

$729 in assorted United States Currency;
(1) One knotted sandwich baggy containing 23.8 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, 117 suspected Xanax pills, 13 suspected alprazolam pills, 1.5 suspected THC pills, and 11 suspected Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine pills;
(1) One knotted baggy containing 1.1 grams of suspected heroin/ fentanyl;
(1) One knotted baggy containing (6) six suspected Gabapentin pills;
(1) One Ruger LCP .380 caliber serial #372448828 and with (1) one round in the chamber and 11 rounds in an extended magazine;
(3) Three cellular telephones;
(2) Two blenders with suspected heroin/fentanyl residue inside them; and
(1) One digital weight scale.

The .380 caliber handgun was verified through NCIC as stolen out of New Castle, PA. Zachary GLAUDE was charged with the following:

1. 6105 A1: Persons not to possess (1 Count) (F2);
2. 3925 A: Receiving stolen property (1 Count) (F2);
3. 780-113 A30: Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (6 Counts) (UF); and
4. 780-113 A32: Possession of drug paraphernalia (1 Counts) (UM).
